Established in 1987 at 684 Ontario St by John and Judy George, the store began to flourish right from the start. VHS movies and Nintendo game rentals were so embraced by the clientele that within a year a second store was added on Huron St.
Video Plus Books worked to create a happy and pleasing atmosphere for it’s customers as well as fair pricing, multiple copies, depth of stock and knowledgeable staff. We created a points program that allowed our customers to participate in a charity giving program that benefited the city and made all feel a special bond to the community.
Books and movies for sale were added in the first year which created excitement to the mix. In the next few years console games, music cds, sports cards and confectionery for sale added a well rounded dimension to the business.
We tested two other stores at different times throughout our time; one on Wellington St in the downtown core and a book store on Ontario St.
Over the many years of our existence Video Plus Books + Cds has competed and outlasted 13 video stores, 4 music stores, and 2 or more game stores.
Both of our successful stores moved to more high profile locations, strangely enough just across the street.
After 27 years we closed the Huron location and amalgamated into our fully owned location at 714 Ontario St where it now stands, ready and re-invented for it’s faithful and new customers.
Thank you Stratford and all of our customer both nationally and internationally for your tremendous patronage.
